When walking around in public with your kids, you collect countless experiences that could lead to great learning opportunities. The kid fell while running away? That's why you shouldn't run away! They forgot their favorite toy on a bench in the park? I told you, you should have left that toy at home. Their tummy hurts after eating ice cream? Well, what did I tell you about eating too much too fast?

Every moment with your kids is a moment you can use to teach them something, but not every parent takes this to heart. Some even do the exact opposite, and instead of teaching kids to take accountability for their actions, they teach them that they can never do anything wrong.

When the mom in the story below refused to admit that her daughter was responsible for ruining her own dress, you could just tell this mom never taught her daughter to take accountability. She probably never takes accountability for her own actions as well, which is what led her to sue a clueless pedestrian for the mistakes of her child.

    In the middle of June, I had just picked up a custom chocolate cake from a bakery that cost $65. On my way back to the car, a woman and her two kids were coming out of a church across the street where a wedding was taking place.

    I crossed at a crosswalk about half a block from the church. I saw the mother telling her little girl, maybe four or five years old and dressed in a very nice white dress, to stop jumping around and stay still.

    The cake was in a box with a lid, but when it hit the ground, it opened and exploded. It was a soft cake with a lot of chocolate icing, so it got all over my pants and the bottom of the little girl's dress.
